- Abstract
The article discusses the reasons for high housing costs in the U.S. According to the U.S. Temporary National Economic Committee (TNEC) the high costs of housing is one of the main reasons for housing shortages in the U.S., however there is controversy over the factors responsible for high costs. It states that labor represents 30 percent of building cost, building materials 60 percent, and overhead and profit contribute 10 percent to the housing cost. It presents an analysis of various factors cited to be cause of high dwelling costs in the U.S. including restrictive practices by labor, building industry and finance.
