EEA: The European Transport and Environment Reporting Mechanism - From Statistics to Policy Indicators.
- Authors
Uhel, Ronan; Weber, Jean-Louis
- Abstract
The article presents information about the European transport and environment reporting mechanism of the European Environment Agency (EEA). People demand and expect convenient and affordable mobility for work, education and leisure. But the transport system that has evolved in the European Union (EU) to meet these needs poses significant and growing threats to the environment and human health, and even defeats its own objectives. The EEA is responsible for the regular publication of indicator-based reports, which are complemented by Eurostat's statistical compendia. The focus on implementation of EU legislation and infrastructure development means that the accession countries are behind in implementing other instruments for environmental integration that are gradually gaining ground within the EU.
