- Abstract
This article seeks to understand the responses of organizations and unions in terms of accommodation in the work environment, focusing on legal constraints, organizational practices, and stakeholders' perceptions. A qualitative approach has been used. The combination of tools for collecting data includes semi-structured interviews, observation of situations, and document analysis, which allow us to provide a fresh perspective on the experiences of employers, union representatives, and employees in terms of accommodation. The results reveal a gap between what the duty to accommodate is and the responses provided for by organizations and unions in this regard. On one hand, the lack of the stakeholders' knowledge of accommodation paves the way for organizational and union responses based on biased perceptions. On the other, the individualized nature of arrangements specific to accommodation does not prompt stakeholders to engage in managing diversity proactively.
