Research Progress on Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease Induced by Environmental Pollutant.

- Abstract
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most prevalent liver disorder worldwide. Besides factors like genetics and high-calorie diets, environmental pollution also has a great potential to cause NAFLD. This paper reviewed the main mechanisms underlying the NAFLD pathogenesis. Then, the paper also summarized that environmental pollutants can affect the progression of NAFLD by disrupting lipid metabolism through the activation of nuclear receptors, promoting mitochondrial dysfunction, and inducing hepatic inflammation. In addition, the review discusses the increased risk of NAFLD due to environmental pollution exposure during early developmental stages and outlines potential future research directions. This review aims to provide a theoretical foundation and reference for understanding the molecular mechanisms and health risks associated with chronic liver diseases, particularly those linked to environmental pollution.
