- Abstract
This article discusses the use of 2-Hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) as a contact allergen, particularly in relation to nail cosmetics. The concentration of HEMA used for patch testing varies between different centers, with most using a 2% concentration. However, the standard series used in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland uses a 1% concentration. A study was conducted to compare the effectiveness of testing with HEMA 1% and HEMA 2%, and it was found that testing with the higher concentration identified more positive reactions. The authors suggest that further studies should be conducted to compare the two concentrations.
