- Abstract
The encounters of people from Western and Eastern cultures are very common in the current working environment. Nevertheless, people keep their thought patterns typical for their culture. The differences between these thought patterns are fascinating; however, they can be confusing in practical corporate environment. The aim of this article is to demonstrate the differences between these thought patterns and also between the ensuing approaches to the solving practical situations on the example of defining national culture and basic principles of management. There is consensus that national culture is an important factor in international management. Its definition differs considerably depending on the use of Western or Eastern models. Based on these different approaches to national culture it is also possible to illustrate some important specifics of Eastern, specifically Chinese, management. In the final part of this article some of the most common areas, which are for the Western experts particularly difficult to grasp, are mentioned.
