- Abstract
The article provides a portfolio management approach to technology cost control. Businesses are increasingly allocating larger budget amounts to technology, much of which is devoted to maintaining existing technology. The article discusses the importance of reducing the total cost of ownership for technology in a company. Four strategies are introduced; they include establishing a baseline knowledge of the system, clearly understanding technology maintenance requirements, regulating software compliance, and minimizing outdated technology costs through leasing.
