Teachers refuse to mark Mayflower anniversary.
Abstract
The article deals with the call from some members of the National Education Union for the withdrawal of lessons to mark the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower voyage to the New World. Topics discussed include the alleged link between the voyage made by 102 Puritans in 1620 and slavery and the role of the Mayflower 400 and other organizations, such as the Arts Council, in promoting the historic trip in the classroom.
