- Abstract
The article discusses the uncertainty regarding Greek rhetorician and novelist Lucian's relationship with cynicism. Lucian's Protean authorial persona is one of the main reasons for the continued uncertainty in his cynic status. The protagonists and narrators in Lucian's works have a variety of views including Cynic, Sceptic and Epicurean. Lucian also had a fluctuating sentiments with regards to the exponents of cynicism.
