- Title
The Changing Scene in Medical Education.
- Authors
Reeves, Thomas J.
- Abstract
This article focuses on the changing scene in medical education in the U.S. In many schools today, an attempt is being made to develop a standard medical curriculum that will meet their stated objectives more effectively than has been the case in the past. The objectives include increased flexibility of the curriculum, including more electives, a decrease in number of required courses, a decrease in time allowed for required courses, and more time for self-education. All of these changes, and particularly the institution of a core curriculum, force each of the disciplines, including physiology, to a critical self-examination of the basic material which must be transmitted to every student.
