- Abstract
This article presents information on Maca plants, Lepidium meyenii, and their culture patterns, based on the harvest festival, titled, "buyers/sellers meeting" at Latin Pharma 2003, held in the city of Lima, Peru. According to Javier Pablo Castillo Güero, president of the regional Asociacion de Productores de Maca, there are approximately 450 member families in the national trade association, Asociacion Nacional de Productores de Maca, and another estimated 350 nonmember maca-growing families. The maca hypocotyls are hand separated from the aerial parts, then hand sifted until dirt and other foreign matter drop through the screen mesh andonto the ground. The article also discusses future prospects of maca growers.
