In I We Are Worth Fighting For: A History of the Howard University Student Protest of 1989 i , U Joshua M. Myers u , Assistant Professor of Afro-American Studies at Howard University, introduces the heritage of Black student protest at both Historically Black Universities and Colleges (HBCUs) and Historically White Universities and Colleges (HWCUs). In 1989, the students of Howard University were not content with the selection of Republican conservative, Lee Atwater to the Howard University board of trustees.
