- Title
IMPROVING MEMBERS' CONDUCT.
- Authors
Fouras, Jim
- Abstract
The article discusses conduct of Australian Members of Parliament and efforts to improve it, noting that public opinion values the Parliament but not the members' conduct. It quotes a 2006 study which shows that the business of Parliament is increasingly conducted behind closed doors, and what takes place on the floor of Parliament is considered by Members to be a distraction. It recommends ways to narrow exemptions to freedom of information and to promote real debate on the floor of Parliament.
