- Abstract
The paper highlights the subsidence phenomenon on the surface in correlation with the method and the period in which a coal face was exploited, the coal seam thickness and the exploitation depth, the geological conditions and the time period elapsed since the extraction. The analysis of the surface movement will be carried out as a dependence between the exploited volume and the exploitation depth. The graphs and interpretations will give a prediction of the magnitudes of the subsidence phenomenon taking into account the geomorphology of the rocks in the Jiu Valley. The paper will analyze a sinking as a case study at a closed mining unit and will initialize hypotheses for the subsequent use of the surfaces affected by the subsidence phenomenon in the Jiu Valley. The geological and environmental conformation is quite restrictive in the Jiu Valley so a solution to reuse the surfaces damaged by coal mining requires increased attention. The method can later be extrapolated to other exploited coal deposits in the context of knowing the exploitation depths, the position and the thickness of the exploited seam.
