- Abstract
Departing from well-established analyses of the biblical myth of Cain and Abel such as Domenica Mazzù's Il complesso dell'usurpatore, this paper argues for a different understanding of the origins of power, based on the lesser-known account of the myth to be found in Jewish mythology. This particular version, in a somewhat Gnostic manner, accounts for the fratricide by emphasizing Cain's divine filiation; thus, far from being the arbitrary victim of divine election, Cain embodies the archetype of the transcendence of power.
