- Abstract
The article focuses on the study on the cooperative breeding in the Spanish Imperial Eagle Aquila adalberti which was carried out in a nesting territory in Central Spain. The three interesting feature of the documented case are the stability of the trio unit over time, trio formation and the role of male in the trio. The tolerance of the three eagles are explained by the lifetime fitness in a high quality territory that increased their survival and their long term breeding success. The study suggest that cooperative breeding is probably a case of polyandry with male reversed sexual behavior related to the improvement in survival and long term reproductive success of the breeding unit.
