- Abstract
This article discusses the concepts of national history and national memory and the the relationship that exists between communities and forging of a national identity. The relationship between the past and the French-Canadian identity specifically is examined. The historiography of the Quebecois is incomplete, and the blanket use of the political science concept of "colonialism" is not applicable to the entire experience of Quebec or French-Canadians, as is usually accepted. The reasons and implications for this are examined.
