- Abstract
The article presents a discussion on narrative patterns appearing in biographical interviews with members of German labor unions. The author examines the relations between labor unions and the political and economic stability characterizing German society between the 1970s and the early 21st century. Descriptions are given of the types of labor union members and leaders interviewed for the purposes of the research resulting in this article, and the author details the types of communication used to contact the interviewees. Topics covered in the discussion include the role of oral history in labor movement research, societal interest in autobiographical history, and the interviewees' connections to World War II concentration camps.
