- Abstract
The article discusses the use of the abolitionism, which culminates with the passage of the Thirteenth Amendment, as a model for revolutionary change in democratic societies in the U.S. It talks about the models of social change in democratic societies and their application to the abolitionist movement in the nation. It provides an overview of the history of abolitionism. It discusses the conflict between the ideal liberty and the reality of slavery at the founding of the American republic. It also explores the effects of the democratic distortion and examines the emergence of abolitionism in the nation and the limitation of such movement.
