- Abstract
The article discusses the oncological outcomes of patients with locally advanced rectal cancer who did not undergo completion total mesorectal excision (cTME) after local excision (LE) following neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (nCRT). The study found that a significant number of patients who were recommended for cTME did not undergo the procedure, with comparable long-term outcomes to those who did. The findings challenge the traditional notion of completion surgery as the standard of care for this patient population and suggest the need for a more nuanced approach tailored to individual patient characteristics and preferences.
