An essay is presented that discusses a debate between Rabbi Yekutiel Yehudah "Leopold" Greenwald and Rabbi Hayyim Hirschenson in relation to Hungarian Orthodox Judaism in the context of American Jewish life. Topics include the influence of 19th century Hungary Ultra-Orthodoxy or separatism on Greenwald, debates on the future of American Judaism in relation to the Jewish Theological Seminary (JTS), and the emergence of Orthodox Judaism in the U.S.
