- Abstract
The article discusses the Socialist housing policy in Bulgaria under the Communist regime and how it affected the Bulgarians in their daily lives especially at the onset of the massive industrialization and urbanization process in 1960 as in other countries of the Soviet bloc. The author argues that despite Bulgaria's faithful adherence to Soviet ideology and policy some adaptations were made as it can be seen from the housing policy which was amended to reflect the Bulgarians' desires of having a home. Topics covered are Bulgarian housing traditions prior the communist era, the persistence of Bulgarian traditions under the Soviet regime and the Bulgarians daily lives.
