- Title
HIV in emergencies - much achieved, much to do.
- Authors
Spiegel, Paul
- Abstract
The article discusses steps that are perceived as integral to ensuring that the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is properly addressed within the context of humanitarian emergencies. While two United Nations (UN) agencies, the World Food Programme and the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), have begun advocating for HIV prevention strategies and policies, the author attests that much can still be done to address the virus. Methods that may be employed to ensure the health of refugees and victims of crises are discussed. It is urged that HIV transmission is facilitated by increased urbanisation and human migration.
