- Abstract
The article discusses the role of airports in reducing the transmission of contagious diseases, based on a book published in 2019 by The National Academies Press. The book addresses the challenges faced by airports in preventing the spread of communicable diseases and highlights the capacity of national institutions to respond to these challenges. The text also mentions the four subtopics discussed in a conference on the subject, which include risk management, stakeholders, communications, and infrastructure. The article emphasizes the importance of air travel restrictions to minimize the spread of infections, considering the specificities of each country. The text is a summary of an e-book that discusses airports' response to outbreaks of contagious diseases, based on the Ebola outbreak from 2014-2016. The e-book addresses response plans, the role of airlines and airports, the stakeholders involved, communication strategies, and airport infrastructure. Despite some limitations, the text is considered useful and of quality, serving as a reference for the development of public health measures in airports in Brazil and worldwide. The e-book also highlights the ongoing relevance of the topic, especially in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
