- Authors
Klemanski, John S.; Walters, Julie K.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the Supreme Court election in Michigan in 2008 wherein circuit court judge from Wayne County has defeated an incumbent justice. It states that circuit court Judge Diane Hathaway defeated Chief Justice Clifford Taylor through 49.3% of votes over 39.5% of the latter. It also mentions that the defeat of the Chief Justice was not expected since incumbency is considered as a major advantage. Moreover, the said election only shows new mode of judicial elections in which campaign effects and contextual factors helped in defeating an incumbent chief justice.
