- Authors
Beck, Philip R.; Roy, Renée
- Abstract
The article presents a study which aims to address some of the issues concerning the management of assaultive and destructive behavior. It explores the reactions of clinicians who have been victims of assault by their patients and suggests techniques for predicting and limiting the risk of violence. Incidence of violence and assault of psychiatric patients usually occur when they refuse to comply with treatment, miss appointments, or fail to take their medications. Clinicians and staff should take a careful reassessment of the patient's mental status, including the possibility of further violent behavior to prevent such occurrence.
