THE GAS SUPPLY OF BOSTON.
- Authors
Gray, John H.
- Abstract
The article presents information on the financial success achieved by Bay State Gas Co. on its effort to lay gas pipe in Boston, Massachusetts, during the ninetieth century. The political conditions of 1892-93 reinforced attack of investors and rivals on Bay State Co. The city's Mayor Nathan Matthews Jr. launched a campaign against the company to invigorate his political status. The appeal made by the association of large gas consumers on June 4, 1892, before the state Gas Commission led to a great reduction in prices for public lighting.
