The article discusses the origin of demography dealing with statistics of vital rates and depiction of political arithmetics focusing on the works of statisticians Gregory King, Willem Kersseboom, and philosopher William Derham. Topics include Derham's views on physico-theology, his works on apologetics, and fragmentary statistics on marriage rates and average birth rates. Also discussed is the providence of God, longevity of men, and propagation of mankind.
