- Abstract
The aim of this study is to evaluate the feasibility of genomic estimated breeding values (GEBV) for the selection on the number of fertile eggs laid between the 2nd and 15th day after a single AI (F) trait. A total of 480 individuals from the 7th, 9th, 10th and 11th generations of Wujie White Duck were genotyped with a duck whole-genome array containing 343,950 SNPs. After quality control, 223,993 SNPs were applied to estimate the GEBV of F, and the estimated breeding values (EBV) of F, the correlation coefficient between the phenotypic value (P) to EBV and GEBV were also calculated. Then we sorted the breeders according to P, EBV and GEBV of F to simulate the actual selection. The results showed that the correlation coefficient between EBV and GEBV was 0.8815; as for the simulation of actual selection, the Spearman's rank correlation coefficient was 0.8856. Both showed strong correlations. The results indicate that GEBV estimated by whole-genome array can be applied to marker-assisted selection of F in Wujie White duck.
