- Abstract
The antioxidant activity of ellagic acid was studied by its ability to scavenge free radicals, inhibit autoxidation of linoleic acid and reduce iron ion (Fe3+). The oxidative damage model of PC-12 cells induced by hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) was established to explore the protective effect of ellagic acid on oxidative stress injury of PC-12 cells. The relationship between antioxidant activity of ellagic acid and oxidative stress damage to cells was established. The results showed that the semi inhibitory concentrations of ellagic acid on hydroxyl radical (· OH), superoxide anion radical (· O2-) and ABTS+ · radical scavenging were 92.14, 36.70 and 47.91 µg/mL respectively. The inhibition rate of linoleic acid autoxidation was up to 90%. And it had strong iron reduction ability. Ellagic acid had a good protective effect on the injury of PC-12 cells induced by H2O2, and it has a good correlation with antioxidant activity. The protective effect of ellagic acid on oxidative damage may be related to improving the antioxidant capacity of cells.
