- Title
2005 Update on Water Industry Consolidation Trends.
- Authors
Maxwell, Steve
- Abstract
The article discusses the dramatic rearrangement of ownership and an increasing level of consolidation in the United States water industry. The U.S. water treatment industry is increasingly being concentrated in the hands of a few large industrial conglomerates. Primary among this group is General Electric, which has acquired a series of major water companies over the past four years. Siemens of Germany bought the USFilter business and with that single strategic move, Siemens became one of the major players in the International water business. Danaher Corp. also emerged as a key player late in 2004 with its acquisition of UV treatment provider Trojan Technologies Inc. With so many major water industry assets changing hands at the same time, the competitive situation in the water treatment equipment industry is a bit up in the air. It will be interesting to watch where various key water treatment assets end up and to see which companies step forward to be major players in the water industry's next generation.
