- Abstract
The article analyzes the significant relationships between grades in college English and Psychology classes and the general and verbal aptitude measures on the second edition of the Occupational Aptitude Survey. Aptitudes can be defined as specific capacities or abilities that are necessary to learn or adequately perform a task or job duty. Aptitude tests are designed to predict a person's ability to learn or profit from an educational experience and the likelihood of a person's success in a given occupation or course of study. Aptitude tests are most often used to select individuals for placement in specific educational or vocational training programs or jobs. Psychologists suggested that aptitudes begin to take a definable shape in childhood and then remain fairly stable throughout the adolescent and adult years. Aptitude assessment can assist in determining the degree to which a student has the potential to satisfy specific training or occupational demands. They may not necessarily predict, however, success or performance because factors such as motivation, personality characteristics, and social skills will also ultimately influence one's performance on a task.
