- Title
Thou Good and Faithful Servant.
- Authors
Schneider, Carl E.
- Abstract
The author looks at the debate over screening newborn infants for genetic disorders, which illuminates dilemmas of social stewardship that have plagued bioethics. He mentions a story told by Mary Ann Baily and Thomas Murray about Ben Haygood, who died from a genetic disorder called MCADD. In their report, the authors said that screening at birth would have let doctors alert the parents of Haygood. He also cites an American College of Medical Genetics (ACMG) report which, the author says, is a stride toward more orderly stewardship.
