- Title
Can We Trust "Democratic Deliberation"?
- Authors
FLECK, LEONARD M.
- Abstract
The article comments on the proposal made by Francis Fukuyama and Franco Furger regarding reprogenetics. According to the author, rational democratic deliberation is a mechanism advocated by some bioethicists. Fukuyama and Furger are right to doubt the commitment of scientists and industry leaders in reprogenetics to self-regulation. Democratic deliberation produce a sufficiently trustworthy and politically legitimate system for national regulation of the industries and health professionals involved in reprogenetics.
