- Authors
Dalleo, Raphael
- Abstract
The essay discusses the anticolonial influence of Afro-Caribbean historian C.L.R. James through his book "The Black Jacobins" which chronicles the history of the Haitian Revolution in the context of the French Revolution, and focuses on the leadership of Toussaint L'Overture for his ideals of liberty and equality. These ideals were embraced by the blacks of Haiti under conditions of slavery and persecution which triggered the revolution, and led James to champion international anticolonialism.
