SUGAR BEET YELLOWS IN GREAT BRITAIN, 1960.

- Abstract
This article deals with the infestation of sugar beet yellows virus in sugar beet crops in Great Britain in 1960. Many plants infected with the virus persisted through the mild winter of 1959-60 and large populations of Myzus persicae and Aphis fabae threatened to spread yellows to the crops. The calculated percentage loss of sugar yield was similar to that of the previous two years, but because the actual yield was larger, the calculated loss of root tonnage was greater. However, timely spraying in 1960 generally decreased yellows incidence and in most areas the contrast in colour between sprayed and unsprayed crops was obvious in the autumn.
