- Title
Advances in cancer and a new antibiotic to treat complex UTIs.
- Abstract
This article highlights several recent advances in cancer treatment and the development of a new antibiotic for complex urinary tract infections. One study focused on the use of stereotactic ablative body radiotherapy to treat primary kidney cancer, finding that it was effective in managing the disease with minimal side effects. Another study examined the use of bacillus Calmette–Guèrin (BCG) to prevent recurrence of high-risk non-muscle invasive bladder cancer, concluding that twelve induction installations without maintenance provided acceptable outcomes. Additionally, the article discussed the long-term functional outcomes of different treatments for localized prostate cancer, finding that radical prostatectomy was associated with worse urinary incontinence but not worse sexual function. Lastly, a phase 3 trial compared the effectiveness of intravenous cefepime–taniborbactam and meropenem in treating complicated urinary tract infections, with cefepime–taniborbactam proving to be superior.
