- Abstract
The article critiques the elegies of poet Edward Taylor on spiritual advocate Richard Mather. It comments on the literary style used, the narrative on the preaching visits of Mather to different cities, and the use of early elegies as reference for each following versions of the Increase elegies. Poems addressed include "Verses on Pope John," "An Elegy on Richard Mather," and "An Elogie on the Death of that holy Man, I. M."
