SH SURFACE WAVES IN LAYERED HALF-SPACES.

- Abstract
The analysis of SH surface waves on a layered anisotropic half-space is performed having recourse to a wave-splitting approach. Assuming that the medium be asymptotically homogeneous, the problem is reduced to a first-order nonlinear equation with a boundary condition at the surface. An iterative linearization of the equation is proposed and a sufficient condition for its convergence is given. Accounting for a first-order approximation, we obtain the dispersion equation in terms of the Laplace transform of a function which characterizes the inhomogeneity. The model is applied to several specific dependences of the material parameters on the depth within the half-space.
