- Title
Plan Now, Enjoy Later? A Study of the Use and Effectiveness of Formal Retirement Planning Programs.
- Authors
Wotherspoon, Catherine J.
- Abstract
This article focuses on the development of, perceived need for, and efficacy of retirement programs. Retirement planning can be effective in helping workers plan successfully for retirement. Such planning can help the retiree maintain personal control over what has been called a crisis in the occupational life cycle. The development of formal retirement planning programs corresponded to the growth of company- and union-sponsored pension plans. Early retirement planning programs generally consisted of a brief meeting with the corporate or plant personnel manager who reviewed employee benefits and options, if any, for receiving pension distributions.
