- Title
Communicating Severance Pay Policies.
- Authors
Stark, Susan A.
- Abstract
In the era of downsizing, restructuring and relocation, lawsuits have become more prevalent in the U.S. as former employees seek payment of severance benefits. Severance pay policies must be clearly communicated to employees so that they understand the benefits to which they are entitled in the event they are involuntarily terminated. It is the intention of this article to discuss how to effectively communicate a severance pay policy, including a review of specific areas that the severance pay policy should address and the provisions to be communicated in the summary plan description.
