- Title
Shake My Hand: Making the Right First Impression in Business With Nonverbal Communications.
- Authors
Hiemstra, Kathleen M.
- Abstract
The article discusses the importance of teaching nonverbal communication, both given and received, and a professional handshake in a business communications course of study. The instructor begins her class by asking them to list the characteristics of a good first impression, learning to shake hands well, and essentials of nonverbal behavior. The coursework in nonverbal communication raises the awareness of the students to the cues they are sending, as well as signals being sent by those with whom they are communicating.
