- Abstract
The article focuses on the Jews in Greater Vancouver, British Columbia. It notes that the first Jew to take up residence was Louis Gold who arrived in Granville in 1872. It adds David Oppenheimer who was considered as the outstanding citizen in Vancouver's formative period. He promoted incorporation of the city on April 6, 1886 and served four terms as mayor and set up the basic services such as water supply, sewers, fire department, and parks. Furthermore, the earliest Jews in Vancouver, originating from Central Europe, had arrived via the U.S., British Empire and the earlier community of Victoria.
