- Abstract
The purpose of this study was to conduct a literature survey on the work activities of professionals engaged in the Aeronautical Information Service (AIS) within the context of aviation safety, through the lens of activity-centered ergonomics. An integrative review was performed, encompassing the evaluation of articles until July 2023. The search for articles was conducted using the Periodicals Portal of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES) across four databases: Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences - SciELO, PsycInfo (APA), Scopus, and AeroSpace Database. The following descriptors were used: aeronautical information service and/or ergonomics; aeronautical information service and/or human factors; aeronautical information service and/or decision making; aeronautical information service and/or operational safety; aeronautical information service and/or flight plan; aeronautical information service and/or air navigation. The analysis of data from the selected studies was conducted using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) methodology. Following the screening process, sixteen articles were included in this review. The publications addressed the utilization of automation technologies and operational safety in air navigation, particularly in the domains of air traffic control and flight planning. These new technologies were presented as enhancements for global air navigation. However, there were no reported interfaces with human factors in these publications, particularly the work undertaken by frontline professionals. This highlights a gap in the literature that would allow for an understanding of the actual work activities within aeronautical information services, including the challenges they entail. There is a need to evaluate work activities from the perspective of activity-centered ergonomics, portraying AIS professionals as protagonists in work situations, with the aim of enhancing operational safety. It is important to underscore that the action strategies of these professionals are vital for the maintenance/improvement of safety, regularity, and efficiency in air navigation.
