- Title
Dryden: Poet or Translator?
- Authors
Rosslyn, Felicity
- Abstract
The article discusses the contradictory political, social, and religious views of English poet John Dryden. It is said that at different times Dryden supported both the revolutionary leader Oliver Cromwell and English King Charles I, was both Puritan and Roman Catholic, and both used coarse language in his work and was puritanical regarding sexuality. Differences between his work as a poet and as a translator are noted.
