- Abstract
The article discusses research on the factors that influence parental perception of diabetes mellitus risk for their overweight children based on a self-administered mailed survey of parents in the U.S. The survey collected such data as children demographics, current height and weight, and family history of type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2). Greater parental worry is said to be associated with overweight status and family history of diabetes. The importance of interventions to increase parental awareness on weight status and family history is emphasized.
