- Abstract
The article reports on the career opportunities for researchers emerging in the field of molecular diagnostics. Molecular diagnostics relies on a network of scientists to make sense of this data-rich field. In addition to programmers, companies are employing molecular biologists, chemists, biostatisticians and even engineers to bring a test from the research and development (R&D) phase and release it into this fast-growing market. The U.S. market for molecular diagnostics generated revenues of $1.3 billion in 2000 and was predicted to generate about $4.2 billion by 2007. The ideal job candidates are people who have a lifelong interest in this area.
