- Title
Jane Austen … Now with Ultraviolent Zombie Mayhem.
- Authors
Nelson, Camilla
- Abstract
This essay examines the Pride and Prejudice and Zombies phenomenon, including Seth Grahame-Smith’s Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, and Steve Hockensmith’s Dawn of the Dreadfuls and Dreadfully Ever After. It considers the proliferation of these differently adapted texts across a range of platforms in the context of a converging and market driven media landscape, including associated book trailers, an interactive eBook, a video game, and media reviews. It argues that the texts signal, configure, and perhaps even mask contemporary fears and anxieties over class and race, and the social processes of commodification under capitalism.
