- Abstract
The article presents an overview of the role of the social and ethos committee in driving corporate social responsibility (CSR) through the new South Africa Companies Act No. 71 of 2008. It informs that the new act which became effective on May 1, 2011 has introduced new concepts including business rescue practices for companies in financial distress and new solvency and liquidity requirements. It mentions that despite of the comprehensive changes that have been brought by the act, no reference has been made to companies' social responsibility.
