- Title
The Impact of Non-Neurotropic Influenza Strains on the Brain: A Role for Microglial Priming?
- Authors
Barbosa-Silva, Maria Carolina; Santos, Luís Eduardo; Rangel, Bárbara
- Abstract
The article reports that microglial priming leads to long-lasting brain dysfunction and increased susceptibility to otherwise inconsequential inflammatory stimuli. It mentions information on impact of non-neurotropic influenza strains on the brain. It states that tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF alfa) activates microglia in an autocrine loop and with other inflammatory cytokines.
